History - 2003

Let me just begin at the beginning and bring everyone up to date with where BY came from to where BY is today:

As a pastor’s wife I wanted to connect with all the girls of our youth ministry. But, there were thirty of them and only one me, and I was a mom of two very young children. So, I knew that I alone was not the answer. My desire was a ministry with lots of interaction, where teens can learn that their value and beauty comes from the Lord. Although a club ministry can be very time consuming and demanding, I thought this would be the best way to connect teens with caring women. I have found Beautiful You to be relationally rewarding.

Combining the idea for a series of lessons on spiritual beauty and physical beauty tips, with the teen girl club concept, we created Beautiful You. The first leaders meeting was in August of 2003 and the first club meeting was September 2003. That first meeting was exciting.

The leadership was as follows:
Prayer partners: Mae Greenleaf, Hannah Thomas, Judith Flemming, Lori McClain, and many others…
Director: Holly Carver (me);
Leaders: Judy Elwood, Lynne Kinneman, Yvonne Elwood, Karen Sullivan and Judith Flemming.

We had about twenty committed teen girls and a year full of fun. Our major events were a sleepover, a trip to “Girls of Grace” in Bethlehem, PA, and a banquet with a fashion show. Overall, it was an exciting, eventful year.

Imagine

~by Lynne Rienstra (used with permission)   Imagine a girl, a precious member of the body of Christ.  She possesses a saving knowledge of Christ and His work for her and a growing dependence on the Holy Spirit.    Imagine that this girl is able to study the Bible for herself, and therefore has a deepening relationship with her heavenly Father (regardless of what kind of earthly parenting she is receiving). Constantly in God’s word, she is learning, memorizing, and applying the promises He has made to her.  Like footsteps, those promises guide her faith walk each day.    Imagine that as others struggle to answer the question, “Who am I?” this girl already knows the true question is “Whose am I?”    Imagine this girl is sure of her value as an image-bearer of God and recipient of His grace, she is shielded from the self-destructive behaviors of her peers.    Imagine her more and more able to hear God’s voice. She is less...

Beauty and the Bubble Bath

  Beauty and the Bubble Bath What is Beauty?  Where does it come from?  What makes a person beautiful?  Is it their appearance, their attitude, or both?  Think of someone that you think is truly beautiful.  What makes them beautiful?  Is it their hair, their skin, their perfect figure?  Or is it their heart, their caring and compassionate nature, their gentle and quiet spirit?  Man vs. God:   We are bombarded by voices everywhere, each one expressing an opinion about our worth or what we must do to be beautiful, to be accepted and to be loved.  (like the latest fashion magazines & beauty tends) Where else do some of these “voices” come from? How many of us are honest enough to say that we sometimes believe the lies that the voice of “man” tells us?  I know I have struggled with this! In Matthew 23:25 Jesus exchanged conversation with the Pharisees, the religious rulers of His time.  He accused them of shining the...

History - 2007

This was another eventful year! The Jaffrey Bible Church began their third year of meetings, directed by Sheryl Duncan. I again, had the blessing of teaching the devotional thoughts. This time the theme was "Beauty in Action" . For a visual theme we used jewels, bringing the truth alive about how we are a valuable treasure being cleaned, faceted, and set in a particular way to glorify our creator within the church body. The wellness highlights developed to focus on various careers and how the Lord brought the various women sharing, to the place they were at, and how the teens could get involved in ministry. These careers included teaching, clerical, homeless ministry, and many more. Two other very exciting things happened this year as well: In the Spring we saw the first ever teen girl conference, at Monadnock Bible Conference. What an exciting event with over 150 teen girls! The other was the first ever guys club ministry – Man Of God . Please continue to pray for Man of Go...
